The popular event will not be held in Moss o'Balloch Park this year, with organisers saying that the loss of funding from West Dunbartonshire Council makes it impossible to run.

Community figures have slammed the council after Loch Lomond Highland Games organisers announced this year’s event would be axed due to cuts.

“The recent announcement from West Dunbartonshire Council regarding funding cuts, affected our budget significantly to hold the games this year. Their letter says: “While we understand that there are budgetary constraints, we believe as the local voice of the community that Balloch and Haldane Community Council should have been consulted on this matter at the very least, prior to the announcement being made if not when this was originally discussed, as we could have explored what other options there was available to help meet the £14k shortfall.

“It is important to highlight the impact this event being cancelled will have on local businesses, the economy and the spirit of the community.” And he added: “Labour chose to do this, and I can only hope the public remember when the Labour council leader asks them for their vote in three years time.”
