Commuters in Nottingham have backed tram workers' vote to strike - saying people "have to understand the reason they are doing it". Nottingham tram staff have voted to strike over the treatment of two terminally-ill workers
According to the GMB Union, they had faced a reduction in pay and, in a show of solidarity, union members took part in a ballot to strike over the festive period. On November 21, it was announced that 94 per cent of members had voted to strike. Nottingham tram users have said they back the strike in support of the two workers - even though the action would cause "disruption". Musician Gates Begna told Nottinghamshire Live that the tram workers are doing it for an important reason.
Chelsea Collins, of Bulwell, said she understands the inconvenience it will cause - but suggested there are different ways to get to town. The 32-year-old cleaner said: “Yes, it will cause some disruption, but there are plenty of buses in Nottingham and other alternatives. I think the workers supporting the ill staff is a good thing.
