Conor McGregor receives response after calling for boxing match against 58-year-old UFC legend
Conor McGregor has bizarrely found himself in the crosshairs of an aging UFC legend who recently announced his transition to celebrity boxing.
Mark Coleman enjoyed an iconic MMA career that peaked when he became the inaugural UFC heavyweight champion by submitting fellow icon Dan Severn in 1997.The 58-year-old, who is known as 'The Godfather of Ground and Pound', was one of the first MMA stars to utilise elite-level wrestling to win fights.
Coleman hasn’t fought since losing against fellow UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture in 2010, but he didn’t officially announce his retirement decision until three years later. Since then, he’s suffered a heart attack and spent some time in rehab to overcome his addiction to alcohol – now he’s set to return to training for a celebrity boxing match.
Coleman is currently looking for an opponent ahead of his fight in October and McGregor appeared to offer himself up when by reacting to the news in a now-deleted tweet that read: "Challenge accepted!"
