So I did some research for that and wrote Lola in a certain way. But then, honestly, when Vanessa [Burghardt], who played Lola, auditioned for it, I just watched the tape and knew she was the heart of the movie. In my first meeting with her, I cracked open the script and rewrote so much of it because she was really open to me asking her questions. Without trying to put the onus on her, I wanted her to really shape the role.
