Gallagher Lennon, 18, who is on loan at Dumbarton from St Mirren, was reportedly subjected to the comments by one of his own fans during Saturday’s match against East Fife in Methil.
Police are probing claims that Neil Lennon’s teenage son was subjected to a taunt about bullets through the post while playing for his new club.
Police confirmed that they had launched a probe into the incident, with Dumbarton FC saying that they will “support the player and his family.” A statement posted on the club website said: “Dumbarton Football Club can confirm that we are aware of an alleged incident that took place at our match away to East Fife on Saturday, and this is being investigated by Police Scotland.“Dumbarton Football Club adheres to a zero tolerance policy and will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.Join the Daily Record's WhatsApp community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages.
The packages, addressed to the two men, were intercepted by staff at the Royal Mail sorting office in Mallusk, County Antrim.
