The student was not injured, police said of the alleged incident.
Officers were called to the school at 2:18 p.m. and ordered students and staff to shelter in place to determine if it was safe to dismiss students, according to a statement from the Sayreville Police Department.
When they arrived, they found the student uninjured in the custody of school staff and learned that the suspect had fled into the area of Kennedy Park, police said. The area was secured, the shelter in place was lifted and students were dismissed.A photo of the man was released by police and anyone with information or who recognized him was asked to contact Sayreville Police Detective Matt Kenny at 732-525-5413.
