In anticipation of the movie's release, Screen Rant spoke exclusively with star Corey Hawkins to discuss The Last Voyage of the Demeter, the joy of his first proper dive into the horror genre, and the honor of playing respected Black characters. It really is a return to form, just to return to old-school filmmaking, and it was thrilling. André told me his vision for the movie, and I was just like, "I could see myself in this," and we went for it, and there just wasn't any looking back. It was fun. He really does have such a wonderful history with monster character work. There is something really exciting about seeing a Black doctor, especially at that time. You've played a lot of those characters with timely themes behind them, whether it be the drama of Straight Outta Compton, or the action of 24: Legacy and the horror of this.
