Coronation Street star Emrhys Cooper reveals his storyline is 'life imitating art' as he reveals tragic circumstances that left his mum paralysed and in a nursing home
Coronation Street’s newest character, Roman Cunliffe, played by Emrhys Cooper, has been causing all sorts of trouble for Leanne Battersby .
“Rowan is high up at the Altervalant Institute,” explained Emrhys. “His main role at Altervalant is recruitment. He travels all over to present conferences and seminars, identifying the more ‘receptive’ people and encouraging them into the fold. Once he’s done that, he schools them on how to recruit others.” And Emrhys reveals that his character’s job is, sadly, “art imitating life”.
“My parents did wind up in a cult,” said Emrhys. “It presented itself as a workout, feel-good fitness mentality - only as they got further in and gave more money that it became more sinister. I wish they Googled it at the time, but basically the cult tried to separate my parents by doing these rather sexual exercises with other people. My dad was having to grope this woman and my mum was having to do this thing with someone else.
