CORONAVIRUS LATEST: —AMC, the largest movie theater chain in the world, is reopening more than 100 of its locations in the U.S. —Europe reporting average of 26,000 new cases per day. —Study shows children play larger role in spread of virus than thought.

9:19 a.m.: US jobless claims jump back up over 1 millionand filed for unemployment insurance last week, according to data released Thursday from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Prior to the pandemic, the previous record for weekly unemployment filings was 695,000 in 1982. That was smashed by nearly tenfold in the last week of March as 6.9 million Americans filed for unemployment insurance in a single week.AMC, the largest movie theater chain in the world, is reopening more than 100 of its locations in the United States on Thursday for the first time in more than five months.
