Ten-year-old Mayah Zamora, the final Robb Elementary massacre survivor to leave the hospital, threw out of the first pitch at Tuesday night’s Houston Astros game against the Minnesota Twins.

PUBLISHED 1:57 PM CDT Aug. 24, 2022

The Correa Family Foundation, with the help of the Houston Astros, named Mayah the foundation’s August Hero of the Month. Mayah, joined by her family, was feted on Tuesday by Correa and long-time Houston furniture store owner and philanthropist Jim “Mattress Mac” McIngvale. The day’s biggest gift — which Mayah may not have expected — was a new home for the Zamora family. When Mayah returned home after her 66 days in the hospital, she learned that the Uvalde shooter had lived just blocks from her family home. She was no longer comfortable living there, according to the foundation.
