Costco has begun requesting photo identification for self-checkout customers after noticing “non-member shoppers have been using membership cards that do not belong to them,”The company already requests photo identification for regular checkout services, and also allows members to bring up to two guests during each store visit, though purchasing items is exclusive to Costco members.
“As we already ask for the membership card at checkout, we are now asking to see their membership card with their photo at our self-service checkout registers.”
