Taxi customers have 'outstanding concerns' following complaints about cabs licensed outside the borough
Calls have been made to end ‘out of town’ licences for taxis as a council admitted it has no enforcement powers deal with many of the cabs on its roads. A meeting of Bolton Council heard about complaints from residents unresolved ‘concerns’ about taxis that are operating in Bolton and the wider Greater Manchester area that hold a licence from another authority like Wolverhampton.
FOI data has revealed that Wolverhampton Council has raked in £12.3m from licensing fees in the last three years – and 24.8 per cent of their drivers work in Greater Manchester. Horwich councillor Ryan Bamford asked a question at the Bolton meeting about what enforcement, if any, Bolton Council can issue to taxis that are operating in the borough that hold a licence from Wolverhampton.
“Bolton Council does not unfortunately have enforcement powers for taxis licensed by another authority. We do forward details of any concerns to the relevant licensing authority.
