cheered his victory 🙌 in the elections as he promised to protect the Amazon rainforest 🌲 and restore Brazil's leadership on climate change 🍃.Rajeev Suri, CEO at British satellite telecommunications company Inmarsat from the International Energy Agency gave us hope, as global CO2 emissions will rise by less than 1% this year. However, the work on renewables and climate technology is only just getting started, and we need solutions now.
While satellite technologies alone cannot solve climate change, they do offer us tools to mitigate the carbonizing effects of industrial growth. Not potential tools, or ones which may be useful in future. Tools that exist today and we know exactly how to use. Findings from Globant and Inmarsat reveal a staggering 1.5 billion tonnes of global CO2 emissions are being removed or avoided annually thanks to satellite technologies.
The data also suggests that a total of 5.5 billion tonnes – equivalent to more than the U.S.’s entire emissions – could be achieved with full adoption across the three industries examined. The decarbonizing capabilities of satellite technologies include fuel savings, improved routing in transport, reduced energy use and optimisation in energy, and even fire prevention in forestry.
As we approach COP27, where the world comes together to take action on our collective climate goals, we urge leaders to come together to assess their decarbonization and net zero strategies with these findings in mind.”
