Though FEMA will not be providing aid to Alabama, the commission is still looking for help where they can get it.

Since Alabama does not have more than $9 million in damages from the storms, it will not receive assistance.HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. - Houston County has experienced nearly $3.5 million in damages from storms since the new year started.

February has already brought a devastating rain storm, causing roads to crumble under the weight of rainwater. “The state of Alabama did not meet that $9 million threshold, which I believe is arbitrary and I believe penalizes border counties, you know, counties that border other states,” said Chairman Shoupe.

“I’m hoping that we can find some assistance through ALDOT to assist with some of the reconstruction efforts,” said Shoupe. “I don’t know if that’s going to happen, but I’m certainly going to go to Montgomery and try.”
