David and Julie Dougherty, 67 and 65, were left very disappointed following the incident
A Nottinghamshire couple had their night spoiled when they realised the park gates they wanted to use had been locked during an event. David and Julie Dougherty, 67 and 65, attended the Hacienda event at Wollaton Park on Saturday, August 31, but were left frustrated when trying to leave the event.
However, when they arrived with the gates, along with other concert-goers who had the same plan in mind, they found they had been locked, despite the event officially finishing at 10.30pm. Mr Dougherty, who works as a self-employed gardener, said: "We've been to Wollaton Park numerous times before to events like Splendour and this has never been a problem.
Being left with no alternative, the couple had to walk to one of the park's other exits and catch a taxi home, costing them £20 compared to the bus tickets which they already had and were intending to use. The situation was made worse by Mrs Dougherty's knee pain. "She was in excruciating pain, it was a bit too much for her knees. You would think the organisers would think 'how are people going to get home?'. The event was great but this spoiled it for us and I don't think we'll be back.
