Covid: Sydney extends lockdown and puts two million under curfew
A lockdown in Australia's capital Sydney has been extended until the end of September to slow the spread of a Covid outbreak.Residents of Sydney have been under stay-at-home orders since late June.
"I apologise to the vast majority of people in those communities who are doing the right thing but for our health and safety moving forward we need to make these difficult decisions," New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian said. But critics say there's little medical evidence to show that curfews are an effective virus control - a view also expressed by the Ms Berejiklian last month.
