The Cowboys' pass rush will get a boost, as Aldon Smith has been reinstated by the NFL after serving a lengthy suspension.

The Cowboys took a chance on Aldon Smith in April, when they signed the pass rusher to a one-year contract conditional upon his reinstatement to the league.Goodell reinstated Smith on Wednesday from an indefinite substance-abuse suspension dating back to the 2015 season, an NFL spokesman told USA TODAY Sports. Smith is eligible to join the Cowboys for team activities beginning Tuesday.

"DeMarcus Lawrence and Aldon Smith and Randy Gregory can excel in this defense," said Ware, who played in both 4-3 and 3-4 schemes with the Cowboys and Broncos."There’s five guys rushing now instead of four but they can interchange those guys, and that’s what makes it hard on those offenses because they can’t block you.Smith will also benefit from a reunion with defensive line coach Jim Tomsula.

Training sessions at Jay Glazer’s Los Angeles gym, Unbreakable Performance Center, should help. It was there, in December, that Glazer introduced Smith to the man who's now his head coach. Weeks later, the Cowboys hired McCarthy to succeed Jason Garrett. McCarthy’s conversation with Smith and Tomsula’s seasons of coaching him paired well with owner Jerry Jones’ willingness to take risks on players.
