Crews dousing early morning house fire in East County find body [Breaking]
Crews dousing a fire in a home in far East County early Monday found a body in the remains, a Cal Fire official said.
The call reporting the fire on Great Southern Overland Stage Route in the Agua Caliente area came in just before 4:50 a.m., Cal Fire Capt. Brent Pascua said. Crews arrived at the home about 5:15 a.m. and found it fully ablaze, Pascua said. It took about 35 minutes to put the fire out.The Sheriff’s Department’s Bomb-Arson unit will investigate, which is protocol for fatal fires.
Pascua said there were 47 firefighters at the scene. They called in extra crews as backup because of the extreme heat blanketing the region. “We usually don’t request more engines, but even this early in the morning, it’s been that hot to request more engines, more water, more Gatorade.”
