BIG WATER, Kane County — Deputies were searching Monday afternoon for two hikers in Buckskin Gulch, in Kane County, after rescuing a third member of the party who was then taken to a hospital.
Kane County Sheriff Tracy Glover said his office received reports of an overdue party of three about noon on Monday. Rescuers worked through the night and into Tuesday to locate the group. Glover said deputies located one member of the group — a man who was transported to the hospital by helicopter — but rescuers were still looking for the other two adults. Glover said he's unsure of the condition of the man who was rescued but suspects he was likely "mildly hypothermic."
"In the meantime, we've come across several other people down in a canyon who also needed rescue," Glover said. "So we've been able to hoist them and rescue them — mostly by helicopter — out of the canyon and to safety. had some floodwaters come down from early spring runoff that has kind of complicated the conditions down in the bottom of the slot canyon and made it difficult to get through there. That's what we're dealing with.
