Cristiano Ronaldo has played his final Euros match after Portugal were sent home from Germany by France, but the World Cup in two years' time could still be a different story
The future of Cristiano Ronaldo 's international career remains uncertain after Portugal 's exit from Euro 2024 .
In an interview with Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg last December, Portugal boss Roberto Martinez revealed a conversation he had with Ronaldo when he took charge. "He was very close to reaching 200 caps," Martinez explained. Reports in Saudi Arabia have backed up the suggestion he wants to reach one last major tournament. It was claimed last year he wanted to extend his Al-Nassr contract, currently set to expire in 2025, until 2027 – which is when he'd hang up his boots.
"In addition, the space for central strikers will become increasingly smaller. In contrast to defenders, it is more difficult for strikers to play at the highest level when they are older.”
