Tomorrow, HelmutLang will announce the winners of a monthlong competition that saw more than 2,000 people from ages 4 to 70 submit original artwork for a limited edition tee.
to submit original artwork for a T-shirt that referenced Helmut Lang but did not include any imagery or advertisements. The three submissions with the most likes at 10 a.m. tomorrow will be the winners and their graphic artwork will be printed on deadstock black or white Helmut Lang T-shirts. The limited edition pieces will be available on the brand’s website this summer.
The company received 2,250 designs from all over the world, with participants ranging from ages 4 to 70. Designs include a statement tee from 23-year-old Brooklyn designer Isaac Vilaneuva that reads “Child of the Internet,” as well as a sketch featuring a 10-gallon hat and the words “New Cowboy,” created by 13-year-old William Claudius. There are original paintings, graffiti tags, and illustrations too.
“It’s important to stay at home right now to keep our hospitals from being overwhelmed and to keep our essential workers safe and healthy—and this is true no matter where you live in the world,” says Halev of this project. “We’ve been encouraging our community to stay at home in our messaging, and we saw the T-shirt contest as a positive way to keep them motivated and engaged, but also as an opportunity for them to be creative.
