Bonner pleaded not guilty to the charges on Thursday in Cleveland Municipal Court, and her next court appearance is scheduled for April 13. The incident happened about 3:40 a.m. on Dec. 15 inside the jail, according to court records. Bonner choked a 37-year-old woman who was jailed at the time of the incident on suspicion of domestic violence. Jail records say Bonner was booked into the jail the day of the incident and released without formal charges the next day.No other information is contained in court records.

and The Plain Dealer reached out to Cuyahoga County spokeswoman Mary Louise Madigan and Adam Chaloupka, an attorney for the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association who is representing Bonner in the criminal case.Several jail guards in recent years have been charged or convicted of attacking inmates, including several during the Ohio Attorney General’s office probe of the jail that began in 2018, when eight inmates died in a six-month span.

Since the attorney general’s office ended its investigation, four other officers have been accused of assaulting inmates.was charged in June with sexually assaulting three inmates, including one with a history of mental illness. Bacsa pleaded guilty on March 16 to three counts of sexual battery and one count each of unlawful restraint and sexual imposition. He is scheduled for sentencing April 14., was charged in July and accused of sexually assaulting an inmate.
