Cuyahoga County Jail Warden Jeremy Everett resigned Monday, by request. Everett began working at the jail on Sept. 11.

Updated: Oct. 24, 2023, 5:47 p.m.Warden Jeremy Everett resigned from the Cuyahoga County Jail on Monday, officials said. CLEVELAND, Ohio – The new warden at the Cuyahoga County Jail resigned Monday, by request, just six weeks into his new position, county officials said.

“Chief Soltis indicated to me that he was told it had nothing to do with my performance during my tenure, but that the county is changing directions,” Everett wrote in the letter to the county. In a separate letter from the county, officials accepted Everett’s “voluntary resignation.” He was asked to return any property, including his county issued employee badge, laptop, and phone to the county’s human resources department.

Cuyahoga County has been in search of a new warden since last year. The county sought a second warden to split duties with Warden Michelle Henry to make the jail more efficient after it suffered from understaffing issues, commissary and sanitation problems and several investigations of inmate deaths.
