Recent confrontation between Washington’s mayor and president Trump highlight the unique relationship between the nation’s capital city and the federal government
WASHINGTON—Mayor Muriel Bowser was on a call with her public-safety team, listening to a rundown of the previous night’s protests sparked by the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, when the president began tweeting about her.
President Trump praised the Secret Service for keeping protesters in line and warned that “the most vicious dogs” awaited anyone who tried to breach White House grounds. He said the mayor hadn’t been cooperative even though she is “always looking for money & help” from the federal government.
