Nicky Jo Dawson, who is currently on probation after pleading guilty to arson and criminal mischief charges, wrote 'Off the pigs' in a Facebook post. However, some legal experts say that her speech was protected, and that the filings against her could be seen as 'a clear effort to retaliate against her.'
, Nicky Jo Dawson, a well-known activist in Pittsburgh, made the post following the Jan. 2 killing of Brackenridge police chief Justin McIntire. The suspect was also shot and killed during the incident.
TribLive reported that the district attorney’s office claims that such posts violate Dawson’s probation, which she is currently serving after pleading guilty to arson in 2019. Dawson was sentenced to three years of probation, including six months on home electronic monitoring, for attempting to start fires at two different pizza shops.
