The Dallas County district attorney’s office is working with Dallas police to audit all files belonging to a detective whose failure to share hundreds of pieces of evidence with lawyers threw aThe review spans Detective Christine Ramirez’s investigative work whether she was the lead investigator or a contributor, District Attorney John Creuzot said in a news release Thursday morning.
Marano is charged along with two others — Charles Beltran and Lisa Jo Dykes — in the murder of Marisela Botello Valadez, 23. Botello Valadez was reported missing after a night in Deep Ellum in October 2020. Her body was found in March 2021 in a wooded area in Wilmer, in southern Dallas County.Marano and Dykes cut their ankle monitors while out of jail on bail in December 2021, according to court records. They were captured in Cambodia last February.
DPD’s Internal Affairs Division opened an administrative investigation into Ramirez last month, after Ramirez contacted prosecutors about evidence she hadn’t turned over until just days before trial, department spokeswoman Kristin Lowman said. Ramirez was moved to the patrol unit while the investigation is ongoing, Lowman said Thursday.
