Michael Sarginson, known as Mike, was repairing the decking in his garden in Windermere on November 14 last year when part of an oak tree fell on top of him. The 81-year-old, who was "fit and healthy" despite his age, was trapped under the debris and had to be cut free by firefighters.
"The tree had been cut by the fire service prior to paramedics arriving. There was a significant left-sided chest injury." "It was felt that his chances of survival were slim; he was dying. Treatment was withdrawn following discussions with the family and he passed away at 4.15pm on November 23."
