A temporary ordinance replaces COVID-related rules, requires landlords to give 10 days notice and tenants to apply for rent relief.1:57 PM on Nov 9, 2022 CST
City Council member Jaynie Schultz clarified at the meeting Wednesday that this temporary ordinance’s end date is reliant upon the approval of a permanent ordinance so there wouldn’t be a gap period if an ordinance expires. The previous ordinance required landlords to give tenants a 21-day notice of a proposed eviction before posting a notice to vacate. Within those 21 days, a tenant had to provide proof of hardship tied to COVID-19 to extend their eviction protection to 60 days.
“You don’t have to be approved. You don’t have to be accepted. Just apply, and show the landlord you did it,” Melton said.
