Passengers at Dallas Love Field looking to call an Uber, Lyft or taxi will need to head to Garage B for pickup.
“Change is challenging, I get it,” Watkins said. “I can certainly put myself in the shoes of a customer and imagine what that feels like. But it is something that I think offers better sound operations from a safety standpoint. We’re working through some of the kinks to try and make it more efficient and better for everyone, but initially, we’re seeing a lot of people just shocked at the change.”
One rideshare app, Alto, is being given the exclusive opportunity for curbside pickup. Alto offers prescheduled rides and on-demand requests. A monthly membership with Alto is $12.95, or $119 a year. Alto and other companies bid on the right for exclusive access to the curbside pickup area, Watkins said. Alto now has a dedicated booth, baggage claim, and a pickup area outside the airport on the curb.
Angel Saucedo and his girlfriend flew back home to Dallas on Southwest Monday night and noticed the curbside pickup area for Uber and Lyft drivers was empty. He saw a notification on his phone that the driver would pick him up in the garage, adding 15 minutes to their commute home. Watkins said transportation network companies like Uber and Lyft were involved in various meetings prior to the new Love Field pickup spot’s debut. Some companies were given maps and point-of-view videos to distribute to drivers.
