Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson says he has $1.2 million for re-election bid
Johnson, who is seeking his second term, is the most prominent name thus far to declare plans to run for mayor in 20236:35 PM on Dec 27, 2022 CSTby the time the filing period for the May election begins next month.
During the summer, he reported having more than $875,000 in cash on hand, raising over $331,000 in contributions collected through the first six months of 2022 and spending more than $27,000. Another $1,000 each is listed from political action committees for Southwest Airlines and WSP USA Inc., an engineering and design firm hired by the city to plan a redevelopment of the downtown convention center and the surrounding area.announced plans to run for a second term
The filing period in the races for mayor and the 14 district City Council seats runs from Jan. 18 to Feb. 17. Johnson’s campaign believes he’ll eclipse the more than $1.7 million he raised when he first ran for mayor in 2019 and defeated former City Council member Scott Griggs in a runoff. The seat was open after then-Mayor Mike Rawlings hit term limits after serving two consecutive four-year terms.
