are unveiling a ceremonial warm-up jersey for Saturday’s Black History Night designed by 33-year-old graphic designer and photographer Brian Delumpa.

It’s the first time in their history that the Stars are hosting a Black History Night as they face off vs. the Blue Jackets. Dallas will be hosting a black-owned business marketplace in the morning and haveIt’s all in the details. ✍️— Dallas Stars The jersey’s design is based on the African symbol “Akoma Ntoso,” which means “linked hearts.” It serves as a reminder that unity is required to achieve a positive outcome.

“As an objective for myself, I wanted to create something that evokes unity, something that resonates with Black culture, the hockey community and Stars fans, and I wanted something that acknowledges Black history, particularly Texas Black history,” Delumpa said. The sweater is black with a green and gold trim, colors that are traditional in African culture, but are also recognizable to Stars fans. Additionally, the shoulder pads include a tribute to Texas culture. They draw inspiration from “Juneteenth,” , the day enslaved African Americans in Texas were notified of the abolition of slavery

“It’s not just the day on February 18th,” Al Montoya, the team’s Director of Community Outreach, said. “It’s got to be on different layers. It can’t just be, `This is a great month, thanks for coming.’ No, we really have to be actively pushing it, and that’s what we’re doing.”
