Farke's decision to make eight changes to his line-up backfired at Elland Road
A disappointed Daniel Farke took full responsibility for Leeds United's miserable Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Middlesbrough. Boos greeted the full time whistle at Elland Road as Farke's decision to make eight changes to his starting line-up backfired as the Whites slumped to a 3-0 defeat.
"I also got the feeling that today is the day to give a few players a chance to get a few minutes under their belts. I knew it was a bit risky and to rotate eight players is never healthy for the balance and the rhythm of the team. If somebody is to be blamed, it is definitely me because I know sometimes it can be tricky when you make that many changes. I risked it today and it's my fault that we won't win the Carabao Cup this season.
The visitors scored three times in 18 second half minutes to book their place in the second round of the competition. "First of all, you have to say congratulations to Middlesbrough," said Farke. "They deserved to win because they played the 90 minutes with consistency. We had a really poor 20 minutes at the beginning of the second half where we 2-0 down.
