England’s EURO 2024 defence 'worries' ex-Leeds United defender Danny Mills who gave a scathing review of Gareth Southgate’s defensive options
Former Leeds United and England defender Danny Mills has stated his worry at England’s defence being “the weakest it's been for some time”.
“Our defence is the weakest it's been for some time, there's no doubting that, that's a fact,” said Mills. “It does worry me. We have no recognised left-footed left-back, which causes an imbalance. Alexander-Arnold started four of the six qualifying matches leading into EURO 2024 in his newly adopted midfield role, but Mills would not put his faith in the Liverpool man if England are to reach the knockout stages.
“If you get caught out in an international game, you're struggling, because you then obviously have to score two goals to win which makes it very, very difficult.
