A daughter of Igor Lanis, 53, says he fell into depression and became fixated with online conspiracy theories after Donald Trump lost the presidential election in 2020.
WALLED LAKE, Michigan — A man who authorities say killed his wife and dog and seriously wounded his daughter before being shot by police reportedly was depressed by Donald Trump’s loss in the presidential election and became fixated by online conspiracy theories such as QAnon.
A deputy with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and a Walled Lake police officer fatally shot Igor Lanis, 53, on Sunday after he came out the front door of his residence and opened fire with a shotgun, the sheriff’s office says in a news release. Deputies had been called to the residence at about 4:16 a.m. by a woman in the home who told a dispatcher she had been shot by her father. After the shooting, the man’s 25-year-old daughter, Rachel Lanis, who was wounded, was rescued after she was seen trying to crawl out the door. She reportedly was in a hospital in stable condition.
When officers went inside the home, they found his 56-year-old wife, Tina Lanis, dead from multiple gunshot wounds in the back. Authorities believe she had tried to run out the front door when she was shot. The family’s dog was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds.
