Created for the animated series Star Wars Rebels, Chopper quickly gained a reputation for his grumpy demeanor and penchant for causing trouble aboard the Ghost. Loyal to a fault like R2, the Ghost crew's Chopper performs his tasks with far less enthusiasm, often making life more difficult for his friends.
Star Wars introduced Chopper in a 2014 feature prior to Rebels, with Filoni nailing the difference in personality between C1-10P and R2-D2. "The easiest way to sum up Chopper that we took to on the writing team is that if R2's your favorite dog, Chopper's a cat." There's no better way to describe Chopper than cat-like. He's dependable and attached to his owner, Hera Syndulla, but his attitude can much to be desired for. Chopper's a jerk, but he's the Ghost's jerk.
R2 And Chopper Are Polar Opposites Introduced in A New Hope, R2-D2 immediately established himself a free-thinking droid on a mission. Seeking out Obi-Wan Kenobi, R2 split up from C-3PO to complete his quest, though they were promptly reunited. R2 immediately took a liking to Luke Skywalker - unsurprising, given he formerly belonged to his father, Anakin - and would remain at the young Jedi's side for much of the remainder of his life.
