ITV's celebrity show The Masked Dancer which sees Davina McCall and Oti Mabuse act as judges has been 'axed' after just two series and a rival dance competition has been blamed
The Masked Dancer, judged by Davina McCall, has been axed after two series. The spin-off of The Masked Singer saw the likes of Bonnie Langford and Heather Morris hit the stage to impress with their dancing.
The show apparently failed to live up to the success of the The Masked Dancer because it was on air during the same time as a rival show - BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. “But they made the mistake of shifting it from a show that ran every night over a week, to a weekly show that aired on a Saturday night. That saw it go out on the same evening as Strictly Come Dancing, which is a very challenging rival.”Series one of The Masked Dancer that premiered in 2021 surprisingly saw Olympic gymnast Louis Smith win, beating EastEnders’ Bonnie Langford and Take That’s Howard Donald to punch.
Heather Morris’ winning dance number was to Carly Rae Jepsen’s Cut to the Feeling which she danced to while dressed as a pair of scissors.
