Berths to the Region III meet at Eagle Pointe are now next for Deer Park's boys and girls teams
Deer Park II golfer Tyler Stewart carefully chips towards the flag on the 18th hole during opening-round play this week. Tyler now heads for Mont Belvieu and Region III action.After a less than ideal experience at the regional preview meet, Mark Boyd, Deer Park High School's longtime boys golf coach, was in need of his guys to quickly forget that trip and show they can connect the dots by putting two straight good days together.
For the ladies, it was another Deer Park sweep. Deer Park I shaved 17 strokes off its Wednesday total, enabling head coach Madyson Milliorn's crew to take the title with a 683. Deer Park II, receiving a little bit of heat from Dobie after the opening 18 holes, defeated the Lady Longhorns by five strokes Thursday to claim an 814-843 win for the last Region III team berth.
Overla birdied 10, 11 and 13 and none were par 3 holes. They were either par 4 or 5 like the 11th hole. Deer Park II's two-day effort was dictated by consistency from Tyler Stewart's 172, Ty Massey's 173, Dylan Headrick's 180 and Everett Spivey's 181. "I just started off on a roll. I'm pretty sure I started off with a birdie, if not with a par. It just kept going from there. Then I got to the next nine, which was the front nine and it kind of went a little downhill, but I still kept it together," said Mixon, describing her noticeable improvement from the day before."It's definitely my best score I've had in a long time. My long game was really good today and I made a couple of one-putts which helped a lot.
