The 37th annual Los Angeles Marathon underway
Meringor held off Korir’s challenge by about 8 seconds at the finish line, winning the women’s race in 2 hours, 25 minutes and 3 seconds. Korir won the men’s race in 2 hours, 9 minutes and 7 seconds. Under marathon rules, elite women runners started the race 16 minutes and five seconds ahead of men.
Most participants in the marathon were expected to take three to five hours to complete the course from downtown Los Angeles to the finish line in Century City. But the elite runners typically finish the race in a little more than two hours.mirror’s last year’s to a T — including a twist at the end that departs from earlier races .
A chorus of Taiko drums, cheers, applause and dog howls welcomed runners and wheelchair competitors as they began their journey uphill on 1st Street downtown.
