The Democratic National Convention is kicking off in Chicago with tens of thousands of people expected to attend - including a slew of big-name speakers. The US president will address crowds later, while Kamala Harris has made a surprise appearance to thank him for his service.

Shout out to my Alabama delegation, you know I love you all," he says before leaving the stage.
