Socialist Rep. Jamaal Bowman pulled a fire alarm in the Cannon House Office Building on Sept. 30 before a House vote on government funding. After reports of what happened made the national news cycle, Bowman didn’t deny pulling the alarm but said it was done as a mistake because he was running late. He claimed he mistakenly pulled the alarm because he thought it would open the door.

“Listen, you know, I pulled the fire alarm, and I did not do it to disrupt a court proceeding, like I said. I was trying to get out the door. I was rushing to a vote,” Bowman said on Thursday. “I’m thankful that we have an agreement in place. I’m thankful in three months, it’s going to be dismissed, and now, let’s move on.”
