House Democrats held their first deposition in the Trump impeachment inquiry today
The State Department's former special envoy to Ukraine met Thursday with congressional investigators to discuss the budding scandal over whether President Donald Trump and his allies improperly pressured Ukrainian officials to investigate a political rival, Joe Biden.
“Not one thing [Volker] has said comports with any of the Democrats’ impeachment narrative, not one thing,” said Rep. Jim Jordan . He also complained that Democrats had refused to allow State Department lawyers to take part in the questioning. On Thursday morning, Giuliani tweeted out screenshots of texts between him and Volker in which the envoy appeared to be arranging meeting times for Giuliani and a Ukrainian official.
Volker has said little publicly about the unfolding drama. But the State Department has defended him in the past, saying that a Ukrainian official had asked Volker to connect him with Giuliani, which he did.
