A Denton man was arrested Friday after a 7-year-old boy died from “suspicious and extensive” injuries, police say.
About 7:30 p.m., officers were called to the 1600 block of East McKinney Street, near North Woodrow Lane, for reports of an unconscious child having a medical emergency, the Denton Police Department said. The child, whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officers were told the boy had “suspicious and extensive injuries,” according to police.
Detectives searched the boy’s home, where they interviewed his mother and her boyfriend, 52-year-old Todd Lofton Shaw. Following the interviews, Shaw was arrested on a charge of injury to a child. Shaw was being held in the Denton jail Saturday, with bail set at $1 million. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.“It is heartbreaking that the death of this child occurred on the first day of National Child Abuse Prevention Month,” police said in a news release..
