The Bridgerton and Derry Girls star talks about her new Channel 4 comedy series Big Mood, which portrays a pivotal moment for a pair of best friends, with the future at their doorstep
Derry Girls and Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan has opened up on her new Channel Four comedy series Big Mood about friendship, entering your 30s, and bipolar disorder.
The series is filled with funny lines, a fantastic Love Actually-themed 30th birthday party , unexpected encounters with attractive exes, and even a surprising encounter with an old school teacher. But at its core, it's a show with a lot of heart. Nicola shares about her friendship with Big Mood's writer, Camilla Whitehill. She says, "I mean, I've known this witch for 15 years! We met at drama school, and we just made each other laugh so much. She was training to be an actor she's a very good actor, but she refuses to do it, it's rude."
When asked what appealed to her about Big Mood, Nicola says, "The script was just brilliant, and it's so her voice. It feels fresh, authentic." When asked about the show's honest portrayal of bipolar disorder and depression, they said: "It was such a balancing act. Camilla had done it perfectly in the script. It was knowing that she's this very depressed person, but still having her be funny, and still having her humour about her, and knowing that when people are depressed or going through stuff, it doesn't get rid of their personality.
