Dexter: New Blood still might get a season 2 despite a controversal finale.
Dexter: New Blood executive producer, Chris McCarthy, has given a reassuring update for the future of the Dexter sequel, meaning it may not be cancelled forever. The show aired ten episodes in 2021, eight years after the original show ended, and picked up after the events of the widely panned Dexter finale. Michael C. Hall returned as the titular serial killer, and his son, Harrison, played by Jack Alcott, also served as the series' main focus.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Wall Street Journal has reported on the cancellation of Dexter: New Blood, which also accompanies the news that Showtime will be pursuing a Dexter prequel show.
Not much is currently known about the future of the Dexter franchise, but there are various avenues executives could choose to go down based on the events of the eight seasons of the original series. For the prequel, Showtime will reportedly be focusing on the early days of Dexter nurturing his "Dark Passenger" and forming a code by which to control his homicidal urges with the aid of his father, Harry Morgan, played by James Remar in the original show.
There is also potential to explore the early lives of Dexter's extensive backlog of villains, including the Trinity Killer, who is commonly regarded as one of the greatest television villains of all time. Showtime is reportedly also looking into the possibility of spinoffs centered on some of these decadents.
