The Diamondbacks have their reasons for taking it easy on prospect Corbin Carroll the rest of the season.
When outfielder Corbin Carroll’s name was not included in the Diamondbacks’ lineup on Wednesday, it created a minor stir on social media, where some fans were upset the rookie phenom wasn’t playing.
“He will play,” Lovullo said. “He will play a lot. But he’s not going to play every day. He’s going to need some time off.” But there are other considerations that will cut into Carroll’s playing time, as well. For one, General Manager Mike Hazen noted that this is, by far, the longest professional season of Carroll’s career. He entered Thursday having played 95 games this season, well over his previous career high of 42 in 2019. Then there is the Diamondbacks’ current stretch of games. Starting Thursday, they will play 31 games in 31 days.
