Baker Institute officials said they believed the “Israel @ 75” conference supported their organization's mission to convene global policymakers for civil discourse. And inside Baker Hall, the conference’s speakers and attendees embraced nuance. “It’s really interesting to hear the perspectives, which I’m delighted are so balanced, admitting to each of our errors and looking for ways to hopefully create a balance which is good for everyone, the people of Palestine and the people of Israel,” said Kim Selber, an attendee who said she recently moved from the Middle East.
That perception has also bled into American political movements, as U.S. colleges and universities have become hotbeds for large protests related to Israel. Many of those center around pro-Palestine students have called on their schools to boycott their Israeli relationships and divest from companies that aid in the occupation of the West Bank.
