Exclusive: Jamie Childs discusses Russell T. Davies return to Doctor Who with a bigger budget, and how he can bring something fresh to the series.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Jamie Childs discusses Russell T. Davies return to Doctor Who and how he will bring something new to the series. Davies was responsible for bringing Doctor Who to a whole new generation of fans when he helmed the reboot of the series in 2005 with The Ninth Doctor. He left the series after David Tennant's tenure, passing it on to Steven Moffat.
During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant for his new movie, Jackdaw, Childs shared his excitement for the return of Davies. He explained that returning to something after spending time away inevitably brings something fresh and new based on the experiences someone has had. He praised Davies' original Doctor Who run and his return and touched on the new budget for Doctor Who, revealing how it can further elevate Davies' return.
Jamie Childs: Well, I think what Russell's done in the past has been brilliant. So everyone knows when you go away from something and you come back to it, you come back you see, Russell's learned from it before is going to bring you know so much. What a luxury to have, to come back to something that you did such a great job of in the first place, but also now we have new ingredients, new budget, and new production team behind it. I've worked with Bad Wolf who were making it.
Russell T. Davies Will Bring Something New With His Return To Doctor Who Part of what is so interesting about Davies' return is that he seems to be finishing a storyline he likely feels is unfinished with the return of Tenant and Tate. This will allow him to step back into the role with familiar characters while also introducing new ones, as he finally has the opportunity to delve into what Donna's life looks like after erasing the Doctor from her memories.
Davies can bring back elements of nostalgia beyond Tenant and Tate with the return of other beloved characters or even locations. However, he can also tap into a completely new audience, especially with the collaboration between the BBC and Disney, making Disney+ the new home of Doctor Who. Doctor Who is a series that every generation of fans has a different attachment to. Davies brought a new era of Doctor Who to fans who had never known about it.
