Clayton Kershaw, who has been sidelined for six weeks due to a sore shoulder, is eager to return to work. He believes that resting in the middle of a season is not beneficial and is looking forward to getting back to doing his job.
PHOENIX — Clayton Kershaw is ready to go back to work.
The three-time Cy Young Award-winner has been through this before, having spent time on the IL in each of the past eight seasons with an assortment of ailments. But don’t try to sell him on the positives of a midseason break, even for a 35-year-old pitcher with more than 2,800 innings on his odometer.
Kershaw said he was bored at times over the past six weeks and didn’t find any use to all this downtime other than to “feel better.” He doesn’t feel anxious for Thursday’s start yet but “I always get the butterflies when I pitch. I’m looking forward to that again.” Miller has been out since mid-June with what turned out to be a herniated disc in his neck that was causing numbness on his left side.
