AG Barr to request Pres. Trump invoke executive privilege over materials related to the House Oversight Committee's census investigation if committee moves forward with contempt vote.

The Department of Justice said in a letter Tuesday that Attorney General William Barr will request that President Donald Trump invoke executive privilege over materials related to the House Oversight Committee's census investigation if the committee moves forward with a planned Wednesday vote to hold Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt of Congress.

But in the letter on Tuesday, Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd said that the committee has refused to engage with the department over a"limited subset" of the requested documents that might be privileged information. In a statement announcing the contempt vote, Cummings said Barr and Ross' unwillingness to cooperate is part of a broader effort by the Trump Administration to dodge oversight from the legislative branch.
