The restaurant – named for legendary football coach and Northeast Ohio native Don Shula – focuses on American kitchen classics in a family-friendly space. It is slated to open in March for lunch and dinner.
Hall of Fame Village representatives said in a press release the restaurant will serve as a retail anchor within the Fan Engagement Zone.
Shula, who was born in Grand River and attended John Carroll University, became a successful coach in the NFL. Before he guided the 1972 Miami Dolphins to an unprecedented 17-0 season, he was head coach of the Baltimore Colts, who lost the 1964 championship to the Cleveland Browns – the last title for a professional Cleveland football team.
Sports memorabilia will hang throughout the space, which will include multiple oversized flat screens while offering an open-style kitchen. The fan zone offers rooftop views of Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. The menu aims to offer “a something-for-everyone approach.” Starters include grilled barbecued shrimp and chicken lollipops. Specialty salads and sandwiches will be available. Entrees include 48-hour short rib, smoked baby-back ribs and pan-seared Atlantic salmon. Steaks include Long Island strip and center-cut filet mignon. Homemade soups, fish, chef-created entrées and a seasonal dessert also are among menu items.
Wines, local craft beers and cocktails will be served, with football-themed named like Seven Rings, Invisible Defense and Sparkling Trophy. Another specialty cocktail is called a 17 & 0.
